The Atlético Independiente de La Chorrera (CAI) club defeated Sporting San Miguelito 2-1 in the first leg of the Clausura 2025 tournament playoff in the Panamanian Football League (LPF), securing one of the tickets to the championship semifinals. With this result, the La Chorrera-based team will face Plaza Amador in the first semifinal matchup, as Plaza finished the regular phase as the best team of the tournament. CAI started the match showing better collective play against a Sporting team that opted for patience and defensive order against the rival's attacks. This strategy of the 'academics' paid off in the 19th minute when Ramsés de León capitalized on a loose ball in the area to open the score after a quick counterattack. CAI equalized in the 74th minute. A precise cross from Omar Berrocal was headed in by Kenny Bonilla, who scored 1-1 and restored parity on the scoreboard. After the equalizer, both teams searched for the classification goal in the final minutes, but regular time ended with a tie on the scoreboard, leaving the match definition for extra time. The winning goal was scored in the 94th minute by CAI thanks to a brilliant individual action by Abraham Altamirano, who got behind the defense and finished with a powerful right-footed shot to the upper left corner, putting the score at 2-1.
